LOCKN’: Blues–Reminiscing About that Mountain Magic

LOCKN’: Blues–Reminiscing About that Mountain Magic

Music Monday – My heart is where the mountains are! It went by way too fast —————->

By far LOCKN’ exceeded my expectations and absolutely satisfied my need for FACE MELTING live music performances and I had the opportunity to be around some of the most amazing people I have ever met. You know if you have been, you will always be part of the family – that vast network of real people who know how to enjoy life and love to live it. Not everyone can do this, but those who festival know every time there are a few moments that make it all worthwhile and I have a few of my favorite to share with you! Once Again, Well Done!

AMAZING GROUNDS and AMAZING VIBES!

Despite the tent crushing storm that blew through and the little bit of rain on a couple of days, the time up in the mountains was perfect! I don’t know about you, but my camp kitchen and shelter held the storm. If you need a new tent, you should check out my other blog: Festival Tent Buying Guide and my other blogs about festival camping.

My favorite thing about going to music festivals is NEW MUSIC DISCOVERY! I mean what else – ?

I love finding something new that speaks to me and gives me some new inspiration to walk away with…I don’t know about you, but I am an artist and I need to be inspired. So my new jams I find at the festivals I attend find their way into my creative flow and my daily playlist.

My no. 1 new music discovery:

Sunday – Deva Mahal

Maybe it was just the cool dewy day or just the vibe in the air but the voice of Deva Mahal caught my attention and definitely made me move my tired feet.

Here is the Relix link with a preview.

AMAZING!

I was also most impressed by Gary Clark Jr.’s performance –

His presence and attention were greatly appreciated! Saturday just before the sunset

Over the course of the weekend, I saw some of the most amazing musical collaborations I have ever seen!

Trey Anastasio sitting in with Khruangbin was the perfect way to kick off LOCKN’. Is there anything better than seeing that kind of musicians get together? Personally, I was left speechless and wanting more of that candy!

Next was when Trey Anastasio joined Tedeschi Trucks Band, every time I see this band I am absolutely amazed at the level of musical talent I am witnessing, then add Trey! It was such an amazing set!

They actually played TWO of my ALL-TIME-favorite songs – Derek And The Dominos’ classic song “Layla” and a cover of Jimi Hendrix “Little Wing, which was one of many highlights of a highlight-filled set.

Next was my favorite song:

Tedeschi Trucks Band – I Pity The Fool (LOCKN 8.24.19)

I mean WOW – just WOW WOMAN!

The best part about waking up:

Participation Row

HeadCount’s Participation Row activism village is at the heart of the row and it helps promote local values, and our friends at Ben & Jerry’s help make it possible.

Participation Row is all about creating an incentive through learning about what you can do locally, all while indulging in some sweets and some rock n’ roll prizes.

Headcount a non-partisan voter registration group who partnered with Boulder-based tea company Celestial Seasonings designed a new, Grateful Dead inspired tea blend affectionately named “Ramble on Rose” after the Robert Hunter penned tune. Hopefully, you got active and got some, Ramble on Rose will not be sold by Celestial Seasonings online or in stores. Read LIVE for MUSIC’s article about the tea collab

All in all – Headcount had 8,280 positive actions taken and $30,000+ raised for all the non-profits on Participation Row activism village with help from Ben & Jerry’s!

The PEOPLE. The MUSICIANS. The MUSIC.

LOCKN’ is my favorite Summer music festival in Virginia!

This little party in the rolling hills of Nelson County will not disappoint, it is the optimal festival experience and this year was no exception! I hope you have the chance to get to the FARM and if you did not make it you can at least enjoy some of the various streams of the event.

Definitely worth every penny! Subscribe to Relix to stream the LIVE event.
